Product Description: Ramipril

Active Ingredient:

  • Ramipril

Use:

Ramipril is an ACE (angiotensin-converting enzyme) inhibitor used primarily to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and congestive heart failure. It is also used to improve survival after a heart attack and to reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke, and death in people at high risk of cardiovascular events.

Recommended Dosage:

  • Hypertension: The initial dose is typically 2.5 mg once daily. Maintenance doses range from 2.5 mg to 20 mg per day, either in a single dose or divided into two doses.

  • Heart Failure: The starting dose is usually 1.25 mg once daily. The maintenance dose ranges from 2.5 mg to 10 mg daily, in one or two divided doses.

  • Post-Myocardial Infarction: The initial dose is typically 2.5 mg twice daily, which can be adjusted to a maintenance dose of 5 mg twice daily as tolerated.

Directions:

  • Take Ramipril exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider.

  • Swallow the tablet whole with a full glass of water.

  • It can be taken with or without food.

  • Try to take it at the same time each day to maintain an even level of the medication in your blood.

Cautions:

  • Allergic Reactions: Inform your doctor if you have a history of angioedema or any allergic reactions.

  • Pregnancy: Ramipril can cause injury or death to the unborn baby if taken during the second and third trimesters. Do not use if pregnant.

  • Kidney/Liver Disease: Inform your healthcare provider if you have any kidney or liver conditions.

  • Electrolyte Imbalance: Ramipril can cause high potassium levels. Avoid potassium supplements and salt substitutes containing potassium unless advised by your doctor.

  • Dehydration: Ensure adequate hydration to prevent low blood pressure and kidney problems.

Guidelines:

  • Regular monitoring of blood pressure and kidney function is necessary.

  • Follow your healthcare provider's dietary and lifestyle recommendations to manage blood pressure effectively.

  • Do not discontinue the medication abruptly without consulting your doctor.

FAQs:

  1. Can Ramipril be taken with other medications?

    • Yes, but inform your doctor about all other medications you are taking, including over-the-counter drugs and supplements, to avoid potential interactions.

  2. What should I do if I miss a dose?

    • Take the missed dose as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next dose. Do not double up to make up for a missed dose.

  3. What are the common side effects?

    • Common side effects include cough, dizziness, headache, and fatigue. If you experience severe side effects such as swelling of the face or difficulty breathing, seek medical attention immediately.

  4. How long will it take for Ramipril to work?

    • Blood pressure-lowering effects are usually seen within 1-2 weeks. For heart failure or post-heart attack benefits, it may take several weeks to months.

  5. Can I drink alcohol while taking Ramipril?

    • Alcohol can enhance the blood pressure-lowering effect and increase the risk of dizziness and fainting. It is advisable to limit alcohol consumption.
